ReadingReading in Kindergarten:
-We will have 30-40 minutes of daily instruction on language comprehension. -We will use the same text throughout the week. Each day will have a different instructional focus. (ex/ Day 1: Intro/read for enjoyment, Day 2:Retell story elements,Day 3: Ask and answer questions about the story, Day 4: Language dive, Day 5: Writing focus and share writing -We will read aloud for 15 minutes each day -We will read decodable books using strategies learned in letterland. -We will have small instructional groups based on student's needs. |
WritingWriting in Kindergarten:
-We will write in response to our story or learning throughout the day! –We will focus on 3 types of writing- informational, narrative, and opinion writing throughout the school year. Writing Progression: –Draw pictures in response to a story or topic (using shapes). –Label pictures by beginning sounds and then stretching out words and writing down all the sounds. –Write simple patterned sentences or use sentence frames related to the story we read. (The characters are__). –End the year with writing at least 1-2 sentences on topic using dominant consonants, correct spelling patterns from letterland, spacing, capitalization, spelling tricky words correctly, and punctuation. |
